Jordan Wolfson on his work. Which I love by the way (his work and this statement). Maybe it’s just me, but it can be so exhausting reading all the inspiration and causes and bs that artists (or their representation) put into explaining their work away. I am one of the bigger proponents of “most people are stupid,” but at the same time hate to be thought of as stupid and when I read extensive press releases and the such, sometimes my frustration overpowers my viewing of the piece and my whole experience is ruined. My judgement forever clouded. Sometimes it IS best to let the work speak for itself.
Don’t be alarmed if you haven’t heard of him, he just won the Cartier Prize through the Frieze Art Foundation and therefore is super new on the scene. What I’ve seen so far? Very promising.
